Oscar Weekend!

I'm a total sucker for award shows,
and we've finally reached the culmination.
This Sunday it's the creme da la' creme: The Oscars.
Last year, I made Ryan Seacrest bunting, and draped it from the living room ceiling,
along with Oscar ballots and other swag.
This year, I'm either hosting or attending an Oscar party
with new friends here on the west coast.
I can't wait to see how James Franco and Anne Hathaway do as co-hosts this year.
I'm planning to make puff pasty cheese stars and wear my red carpet best!
Do you have any plans for Sunday?
If so, happy viewing!

Working for the Weekend?

More like working ON the weekend...
I'm off to La La Land for an event Sunday through Wednesday.
I am less than thrilled to be working the long weekend,
but I have to admit, I always like going to LA.
I am not much of a Southern California girl,
but for some silly reason, it truly strikes my fancy.
It's such a strange, sunny, ethereal place;
where everyone has surfer hair and wears spandex.
And on the bright side, at least there is the potential for sunny skies.
and dinner with old friends while I'm there is a definite.
Happy Weekend, friends.

Instant Party

Don't these streamers scream instant party?
So frilly and fancy and fun!
I love them.
Then again, I basically love everything this woman creates.
I can get pretty crafty with crepe paper.
It's an underused, and overlooked decorative option, people!
Who wouldn't want bright, carnation-like ribbons twirling from their ceilings??
Time to throw a party!

Pick Your Cupid

This is so funny and clever and I couldn't resist sharing.
Op-Art Pick-Your Cupid in the New York Times today.
I think the hipster one is pretty funny.
Happy Valentine's Day, friends!
XO

Be Mine

I'll be yours...
if you be mine.
Wishing you all a day full of pleasant surprises.
(Ones that make your heart flutter.)
Love rocks.

Big Waters

I'm back from a long weekend spent with friends in Tahoe.
After somewhat of a tough week, it was nice to have a weekend retreat.
Did you know Tahoe means 'Big Water?'
Lake Tahoe is glittery and shimmery
and will absolutely take your breath away.
I was able to wear a lot of this:
which is always good in my opinion.

I let the sun kiss my face and my feet get fancy on the dance floor.
And when we weren't snow bunnying or sun catching,
we cozied up in front of the fire to play card games.
Why have I not been to Tahoe before?
And why didn't my parents raise us sisters to be skiers?
It's just like the beach, but with snow!
Everyone seemed so happy-go- lucky and relaxed.
Tahoe, will you be my Valentine?

Shot Through The Heart

I'm officially obsessed.
If I wasn't winter wonderland-bound this weekend,
I'd be whipping up a set of my very own Valentine Arrows.
Full set of instructions found here.
I especially love them because they sort of have a
Native American vibe going on,
and for reasons my sisters and I still can't quite figure out,
our parents love this type of art.

Moss in Stripes, and a Thank You

Oh goodness me.
I'm feeling a little flushed!
I am so grateful for everyone's love letters today.
I didn't intend to make anyone feel blue about my being in a pickle.
I do, however, appreciate the support and encouragement that came my way because of it.
Might I add; I didn't know some of you were reading
Big Moon Sky everyday.
Instant mood booster!
In fact, I'm feeling less blue and more rosy already.
I know this photo of Miss Moss in her sailor stripes isn't new, but boy, do I love it so.
She is the epitome of chic.
This get-up makes me smile because
I pretty much wear this outfit every other day
(save for the red Channel: if I could, I would, people)
and, it proves that sequins don't always mean sexy.
See? Just the simplest things can turn a frown upside down.
Sweet dreams, friends.

In a Pickle...

I’ve really gotten myself into a pickle.
I don’t know how it happened, but, everything seems to be all mushy and bland.
And now I’ve gone and spent beyond my means,
which turns the mushy and bland into panic and overwhelmed.
My job is uninspiring.
I’m packing a bit of ‘winter pudge.’
And, I feel ashamed admitting this but, sometimes I feel a little lonely.
The shame speaks from this little corner in my heart that says,
“Quit being so hard on yourself. You’re a girl with gusto just living your life!
You don’t need a partner in crime to make you feel happy or fulfilled. “
But… every night before I go to bed I can’t help but wonder:
Where are you? Are you thinking of me too, wondering when we’ll meet?
And I think because my job has been less than rewarding,
I’ve been a little shop-happy.
And maybe a little snack-happy too.
And now I feel this enormous surge of anxiety and failure.
What the heck do I have to show for the pennies I’ve purged?
Will I be forced to live in squalor; eating toast off the floor?
How did I manage to relocate from one of the most expensive cities to...
one of the most expensive cities?
Oh why, oh why can’t we pay for things in handshakes and high fives?
Humph.
I’m heading out of the city this weekend with some friends.
Hopefully, a little snow and the great outdoors will lift my spirits.
And, perhaps I can collect some acorns and pine needles
and introduce them as a new form of currency.
Until then…

I Heart Cake

I've been seeing this darling heart cake pop up in the blogs
-but I have to admit-
I'm a bit intimidated to give it a go!
Full set of instructions found here .
Plus, where the heck would I store all those cake pans afterwards?
It's almost too pretty to eat besides.

Lamp Hunt Complete!

At long last, I've found it.
A perfect table lamp.
I'm not a fan of overhead lighting- it's too harsh and squinty.
I want cozy, and luminous, and dreamy.
And so,  after poking around a bit on some favorite blogs
I spotted this lovely lamp, here.
The price was right and there are colors a-plenty.
Hello, puddy pink lamp.
I quite like you, I do!

Calling Cupid

It's finally February.
And you know what that means?
I'm going to start playing Sam Cooke every night as a prepare dinner in the kitchen,
and wear lacy undershirts and bubblegum pink lipstick,
and buy a stack of doilies and a jar of red hots.
Just because.
Because...it's the month of love!
And, even though I am waiting for someone to say to me,
"Emily, you're the pie in the sky, the bee's knees,
and the cat's meow. Boy-oh-boy you make my heart pitter patter,
and my stomach do flip flops!
The mere thought of you makes me go bananas,"
I know that they're out there.
So c'mon cupid!
Whattcha making me do all this waiting for?
Draw back that bow!
